The Chappaqua Library seeks Substitute Librarians and Library Assistants to join our team and provide an
exceptional user experience to all. This position’s primary responsibility is to staff the adult public service
desk as needed. This would be a great opportunity for an MLS student or a Library Assistant with
experience working on a public service desk.
This person will deliver quality reference services, helping users access library materials, technology, and
digital databases. The ideal candidate is service-oriented and shows enthusiasm for helping the Library
connect with people of all ages and backgrounds. This position reports to the Head of Adult Services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Staff the adult public service desk on an as needed basis.
● Assist with reference and tech-help such as, helping users access materials, e-resources,
computers, and printing services.
● Follow all library and departmental policies and procedures.
● Maintain effective communication with co-workers and supervisors, in-person and digitally.
● Keep up to date with professional development.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:
● Excellent customer service skills.
● Cultural competence skills.
● Strong technology and database skills, experience with Evergreen ILS.
● Proficient with Windows OS, digital databases, and Google Docs.
● Approach challenges and change with a positive, problem solving, and learning atitude.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
● Master’s Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
● NYS Public Librarian Certificate
OR
● Bachelor’s degree AND currently enrolled in a Library Science degree program.

SCHEDULE & COMPENSATION:
This is a substitute position, to be scheduled on an as needed basis only, up to a maximum of 17 hours a
week. Must be able to work weekends and/or evenings. Salary is $28-32 per hour commensurate with
experience. Benefits include New York State Retirement system eligibility.
