A public library in Rockland County serving a population of approximately 28,600 people is seeking a full-time Adult Reference Librarian. Schedule of 35 hours per week will include at least one evening and weekend hours.

The Librarian provides general reference and reader’s advisory services in the Adult Services as well as the Youth Services Departments. They provide technical support to patrons using computers and other electronic devices, and assist patrons using the library’s digital services. The Librarian should be open to planning and conducting programming related to their job, community need and interest, and attends outreach events as needed. The candidate should have knowledge of professional library principles, familiarity with print and digital collections, strong reference interview skills, and the ability to keep current with rapidly changing technology.

The candidate must possess excellent oral and written communication skills, a flexible schedule and the ability to handle detail oriented work.

The candidate must be able to successfully navigate interacting with patrons, as well as create and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, supervisors and volunteers.

In addition, the candidate should be comfortable with all technologies and software used in library operations including, but not limited to SymphonyWeb, Internet, Libby/OverDrive, Hoopla, Microsoft Office 2010 Suite and TBS Computer/Print Management software.

Experience with Canva, Library Aware, LibGuides all a plus!

The candidate must take part in continuing education opportunities.

An accredited Masters’ degree in Library Science is required, as well as a New York State Public Librarian Certification – MLS Candidates with work experience may apply.

The salary is $26 per hour.
