Cornwall Public Library seeks an enthusiastic person to work at our circulation desk.
Typical work activities may include: Checking items in and out, placing holds; Thoroughly inspecting returned items for damage; Notify patrons of and collecting money for overdue fines, miscellaneous fees, and /or lost or damaged items; Issuing and reviewing applications for library cards, create new borrower records, and issue replacement cards; Enter patron’s information into Constant Contact; Answer the telephone and assist caller personally or refer them to appropriate library personnel; Locates library materials for patrons; Performs routine circulation, reserve, and overdue functions; Operates standard office equipment such as photocopiers, fax and computers; Shelves new and returned books according to identification numbers; Sorts book carts; Files registration cards; Gives directional information; Provides information to the public on library policies and procedures; Performs routine searches and updates of computer records; Follows standard office etiquette and practices; Calls patrons to deliver messages and respond to queries; Communicates with supervisors and staff on both library computer channels and verbal messages; Provides reference and reader’s advisory when needed; Helps to maintain a friendly, welcoming environment; Promotes library programs and activities; Attends and participates in staff meetings and in-service as requested; Maintains a clean and safe work environment; Adheres to schedule and attendance protocols; Empties book drops and routinely checks for items; Performs pull list as shift requires; Familiar with opening and closing procedures; Performs other duties as assigned by the Library Director, or the Circulation Supervisor
Open position hours: Tuesdays 5PM-8PM (3 hours); Wednesdays 5PM-8PM (3 hours); Fridays 12pm to 6 PM (6 hours); At least one Saturday 8:45-4:00 (6 3/4hours) per month; At least one Sunday 12:45-4:00 (3 1/4 hours) per month. Substituting other days/times as needed.
