The Haverstraw King’s Daughters Public Library welcomes qualified candidates to apply for the
position of Clerk, Substitute.
This is an opportunity for an enthusiastic and customer-centered person as a substitute Clerk to
work at our circulation desks at the Main Library in Garnerville and Village Library in Haverstraw.
We schedule substitutes for varying hours on an as-needed basis Monday through Sunday. We are
currently seeking candidates with, at minimum, Monday evening availability and some
Saturdays/Sundays.
Haverstraw King’s Daughters Public Library supports a vibrant community of 39,000 people with
collections and programming at two locations in Garnerville and the Village of Haverstraw, New
York. We are certified as a Sustainable Library under the Sustainable Libraries Initiative.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
● Sorts and files correspondence and other materials
● Makes and receives telephone calls, takes messages and provides callers with general
information
● Completes requests for applications and and answers and answers routine questions for
completing them
● Disseminates form letters, notices, permits, licenses, and other materials and may collect
money
● Checks, matches, and assembles forms, documents, and related data for further processing
● Maintains and balances simple account or recordkeeping entries and makes basic
mathematical computations
● Prepares paper or electronic vouchers
● Operates standard office machines and utilizes various computer programs and applications
for the completion of work
SKILLS
● Working knowledge of current technology, standard computer applications
● Working knowledge of arithmetic, ability to process documents, ability to file alphabetically and
numerically
● Basic oral and written communication and computer skills
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
● Ability to work an assigned schedule
● Physically capable of bending, lifting, reaching and pushing loaded book carts
● May be assigned at Village Branch in Haverstraw or Main Library in Garnerville
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
● Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma
● Academic, technical, or vocational training or paid office clerical work experience may be
substituted for schooling on a year-for-year basis
● Appointee must be a legal resident of New York, New Jersey or Connecticut
SALARY
● The salary is $21.30 per hour
