The Tomkins Cove Public Library is a school district library committed to providing our community of more than 1,300 North Rockland Central School District residents with access to the highest quality of materials, services, and programs. The Library Board of Trustees seeks a leader to mentor the staff, develop programs, manage the facility, and engage with the community. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual who has the ability to work and communicate with diverse groups and is prepared to develop the library’s budget.
Responsibilities: The Library Director is responsible for all library functions, implementation of library policies, and supervision of all personnel. Duties include, but are not limited to, supervision, recruitment, hiring, management, professional development, coordinating services, managing the physical property, developing an annual operating budget and capital budgets in conjunction with the Board of Trustees, and successfully implementing short and long-range strategic planning goals.
Qualifications: A Master’s degree in Library Science or Library Information Science from a college or University accredited by The American Library Association; a New York State Public Library certificate; three (3) years of professional library experience, two (2) years of which must have been in a public library in an administrative or supervisory capacity.
Special Requirement: Possession of a current New York State Public Librarian’s professional certificate at the time of application. Applicant must be eligible to be appointed from the civil service list for Library Director I, held by the Rockland County Department of Human Resources.
Compensation: The hiring salary range for the position is $62,000 to $70,000 (salary negotiable based upon experience). A competitive benefits package is offered.
