The Palisades Free Library is seeking a youth librarian to join our friendly and dedicated staff. We are
looking for someone who loves to work with families and young people, from infants through high
school. The successful candidate has an MLS with coursework in serving youth populations, is
knowledgeable about children’s literature, and can manage a variety of activities for a small and
thriving library community. Students who have completed coursework in children’s services are
encouraged to apply.
The Palisades Free Library is an association library located in Rockland County and serves a community
of 1,400 residents with diverse intellectual interests. The Palisades Free Library is an equal opportunity

The position is for a 35 hour workweek, and includes one evening a week and one weekend a month.
The salary is $54,000, includes NYSHIP health benefits, a 401K plan, and 4 weeks paid vacation.

General Duties:
Selects youth materials, coordinates youth programming, and offers reader’s advisory for ages 0
through high school. Works with members of the public of all ages at the reference desk answering
reference questions, suggesting reading materials, and assisting with library computers and
equipment.
Conducts storytimes for children ages 0 – 5 and their caregivers
Runs a monthly Teen Advisory Board meeting and coordinates teen volunteers for events
Hires presenters for youth programming
Manages summer reading program for children and young adults
Organizes, displays and maintains the collection in the children’s room and YA section
Conducts outreach to the community through school visits
Posts to Instagram, Facebook and other social media accounts; the youth services librarian is
responsible for promoting/marketing youth programming
Manages the Youth Services materials and program budget under the guidance of the director
Required Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Masters of Library Science or currently enrolled in ALA accredited school
Coursework in serving youth populations
Knowledge of and interest in children’s literature
Knowledge of trends and practices in the field of youth librarianship
Enjoys working with children and families
Ability to work as part of a team and work independently
