Goshen Public Library & Historical Society, 366 Main Street, Goshen, NY is seeking a part-time Librarian I to join our adult services team. The Library is open Monday – Thursday 9:00 am – 8:00 pm; Friday 10:00 am – 6:00 pm; Saturday 9:00 am -5:00 pm; and Sunday 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm. This position will provide evening and weekend coverage and is anticipated at 10-12 hours per week.

Duties (illustrative, not intended to be all inclusive). The individual filling this role will:

· Provide excellent customer service on the reference and information desk that includes responding to reference questions, suggesting reading and viewing materials, placing holds, registering patrons for programs, information/referral services, and providing computer assistance to patrons;

· Monitor public computer workstations to ensure proper use;

· Manage use of study rooms and meeting rooms during desk time;

· Recommend, develop, and implement programs, classes, and services for adults, including working with outside agencies and community groups;

· Engage in collection management, selection and management as needed;

· Assist in reporting and compiling statistics; and

· Be responsible for the adult services department when the librarian on duty.

Minimum Qualifications: A Master’s degree in Library Science or Library Information Science from a university program that is accredited by the American Library Association or recognized by the New York State Education Department as following accepted education practices and (2) years of professional experience in a public library subsequent to the MLS.

Special Requirements: Possession of a New York State Public Librarian’s professional certificate at the time of application.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:

· Knowledge of and interest in library materials, bibliographic tools and sources, library methods and procedures, and library programming.

· Proficiency in library and office software – Aspen, Workflows, LibCal, Canva, and Microsoft Office

· Ability to assist patrons in basic technology needs, including e-Books, e-resources, internet, and email.

· Ability to develop and implement library programming.

· Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.

· Ability to meet and interact with people and participate effectively in the cultural and intellectual activities of the community.

· Ability to creatively solve problems and effectively multi-task.

· Ability to assess and strategize about new services based on the needs of the community.

Hourly rate, depending on education and experience, between $22.00 and $27.50
